It starts with Alpha...

"Sir, you should have a look at this!" The operator shouted from his cramped station. On his screen a number of lights were blinking angrily as he struggled to make sense of them. Veteran Sergeant Janus of the Ultramarines slowly walked over and stood beside him, leaning on the desk which creaked alarmingly not designed to bear the stress of an armored astartes.

"Report, Sasha" Janus's base rumble so close to Sasha's ear made him flinch involuntarily. Despite being stationed here for nearly two months together with the small contingent of astartes he still wasn't used to working with them. He didn't know if he ever would be.

"An astartes strike cruiser just translated into system in our sector, sir! It has not sent any authorization codes and is on route towards our position. Do you think it is more of those renegades?" Sasha looked over at Janus who was studying the information scrolling over the view screen with a look so intent that Sasha thought he would have to repeat himself. "Sir, an Astartes...

"I heard you the first time, Sasha..." Janus straightened "Those are no black shields... That vessel is the Lambda."

"The Lambda?!" Sasha blurted out "But that's an Alpha Legion designation! Why are they here?!" Sweat began trickling down his temple as he prepared a swift message for the coreward command. Alpha Legion meant trouble, big trouble. On top of rebellion and renegades now his home would visited by the most devious of traitors.

"Sasha, what are you doing?" Janus sounded amused, and seemed to be studying him.

"Following protocol, sir! We musn't let those traitors gain a foothold, if we do my home won't know compliance again in my lifetime." Sasha typed in a frenzy, he felt like this was the single most important duty he'd ever had and maybe ever would. "Your brothers have dealt with them before Janus, haven't they? You can stop them?"

Janus chuckled richly. Sasha turned towards him, startled and slightly wild eyed. In two months he'd never heard an astartes laugh and this hardly seemed the time. "Janus, sir?"

"You don't know how right you are Sasha. My brothers have dealt with them extensively. But stop them? No.. I cannot stop them." Janus stared deeply into his eyes and smiled "We're already here..." Sasha looked around the room franticly, but there was no one else there... There should have been half a dozen, the implications were frightening.

"Sasha, Sasha..." Janus tutted. "Be a good boy and signal the Lambda, codeword Agamemnon"

"Why! Why would I do such a thing you traitorous bastard!" Sasha blurted out, feeling his body quake as he anticipated what raising the ire of an astartes would result in.

"Why?" Janus smiled quizzically. "For the Emperor Sasha... For the Emperor..."

This is my first post in the upcoming slow grow project Battlefront Siberius. It is also my first Horus Heresy endevour and my first time playing as the bad guy (or am I?). Expect a lot of Alpha Legion trickery and some WIPs in the upcoming months as I try to flesh out and immerse myself in what it means to be XX legion. I will give my take on their battle doctrine as well as try to explain the Alpha Legion objectives and presence in the increasingly crowded Siberian system.

Well met and Hydra Dominatus!
